An anonymous author once said: “Others will judge your God by the way you present him.”  How right he was.  Reflecting upon our own lives, we can testify to the fact that the good Samaritans who crossed our path and radiated the spirit of joyfulness, understanding, kindness, generosity and especially mercy and forgiveness, made an imprint upon our hearts and minds forever.  As the second person of the Holy Trinity, Jesus presented God as He really is.  To the woman caught in the act of adultery, as He witnessed her repentant disposition, He was merciful and forgiving, exhorting her to go and sin no more.  Not one of us is beyond the reach of God no matter how serious we may have sinned throughout our lives.  On this Sunday of the Great Fast, the fifth, our Byzantine Catholic tradition brings to our attention the life of am Egyptian woman who after living a very immoral and degrading existence, found how compassionate and loving God is.  (Fr. Frank A. Firko, Journey through the Great Fast, pg. 57)

We have you as a model of repentance, venerable Mary of Egypt!

Pray to Christ during the Great Fast that the gift of repentance may be  conferred upon us so that we may join you in praising God with hymns of faith and of love.
